Bangkok's oasis of calm and serenity Bangkok is and always will be a fascinating place, and with a luxurious new spa in the heart of the city, it’s time for a revisit. ANN RICKARD reports. Just when you thought day spas couldn’t possibly get any more luxurious or offer anything new in treatments, along comes another glamorous sanctuary to take the breath away with its wellness offerings and six-star atmosphere. The newest spa to open in the heart of Bangkok is RarinJinda Wellness Spa in the Centre Point Complex. If ever a city called for an oasis of calm and serenity it is Bangkok. After a long day on the frantic streets a spa session can soothe and rejuvenate fraying nerves and have you floating back out to those same frantic streets, ready for a long night out. The smell of lemongrass oil hits the senses first on entering RarinJinda, then in the dim light the flickering candles and fresh flower arrangements bring on a sense of peace. Just sitting in the serene foyer browsing through the list of treatments is therapeutic enough, but once escorted to one of the treatments rooms past trickling water features, floating candles and more exquisite floral arrangements, the stress of the city has already melted away. As well as body wraps, scrubs, relaxing massages and hydro-therapy treatments, RarinJinda offers hot stone massage, Vichy massages, Siamese herbal steaming, and its signature Elements of Life treatment, involving warm sand and Tibetan sound therapy. The hitting of ancient bowls while you lie on warm sand doesn’t necessarily sound relaxing, but it most certainly is. Most of the treatment rooms can accommodate couples, and spa packages can be tailored to include foot polishing, floral whirlpool baths, body scrubs and masks and facial rejuvenation. The relaxation continues long after your treatments are finished with a range of herbal teas and juices, sticky rice and mango to be taken at your leisure in the luxurious lounge.
