Broadway's feelgood best heads for Sydney's North Shore*

An ultimate feelgood compilation of Broadway’s best will hit Sydney’s North Shore on 29 September.

Chatswood Musical Society will present five performances of The Best of Broadway, — featuring a myriad of classic show-stopping songs from favourite family musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Rent, Miss Saigon, Cats, Oliver!, Jekyll and Hyde and Les Miserables.

Co-directed by Anne Veitch and Matthew Cater, with musical direction by Marcus Bortolotti and choreography by Laurie Tancred, this Broadway-born extravaganza delivers a stellar cast and crew including Kitty Van Horne, Tom Willison and Sam Coleman.

Kitty Van Horne, the persona of flame-haired chanteuse, performer and model Stacey Gentilcore, dazzles in All That Jazz from Chicago. With vocal abilities ranging from swing to opera and musical theatre, Kitty’s performance blends elements of love, loss, beauty, expectation and the roles of women in modern society.

Performing in a naval number closer to home than most would realise, Sam Coleman plays the Sailor. After joining the navy at 18 and the Australian Defence Force Academy in 2000, Coleman managed to achieve that elusive trifecta of balancing a university and military life (including sea postings) with his love for theatre.

With an extensive performance career firmly under his belt in both stage and popular TV shows such as Home & Away, Rescue Special Ops and Dance Academy, Tom Willison brings all his musical drama, singing and dance experience to his Chatswood Musical Society debut as Emcee.

Other cast principals, Angelique Bosman (recent star of High School Musical 2) and Caroline Mulvenna, are joined by a supporting cast that features Michelle Bellamy, Seann Moore, Philip Barton, Elli Green, Rowan Witt, Graham Bone, Jeremy Curtin, Sara McLean, Katrina King, plus dynamic sister-and-brother duo Jocelyn and Lachlan O'Brien.

Local child stars featuring as scallywag orphans in Oliver! are Anthony Yangoyan, James Robertson, Caitlin Almada, Justinn Lu, Hannah Paul, Rachel Holder, Hayden Tonazzi, Sophie Almada, Amelia Bird, Jayda Gursel, Kate Carey, Emily Hackney, Victoria Gonzalves, Kirsten Henry, Claire Horgan, Annika Lellmann, Freya Lee, Jack Mainsbridge, Jack Mainsbridge, Gabrielle Montablo, Sarah Wroth, Tom Jenkins, Nazer Shahen, Jessica Wait, Molly O'Sullivan, Rebecca Robinson, Maya Parkes, Anastasia Scoggin-Klemp, Evie Maslen, Sean Montablo and Isaac Holder.

Chatswood Musical Society is one of Sydney’s longest-running musical-theatre companies. Founded in 1951, this established company has offered a stepping stone to professional careers for many up-and-coming stars.
