Major world talents head for Queensland Ballet's International Gala* It’s one of the most anticipated events in Queensland Ballet's calendar every year: the International Gala. The 2009 lineup promises to deliver thrilling pas de deux and large ensemble works in a program which sparkles from start to finish. For International Gala 2009, which be be staged at Brisbane’s QPAC from 79 August, Queensland Ballet welcomes some major talents from dance companies around the world, including Nederlands Dans Theater and Bavarian State Ballet (Munich). The exciting program is a captivating mix of dance pieces in classical and contemporary styles from Artistic Director François Klaus and guest choreographers, among them Mario Schröder from Germany’s Ballett Kiel, who will remount his piece Erdbeermund on Queensland Ballet dancers. Australian dance companies will be represented with a piece by Natalie Weir, Artistic Director of Expressions Dance Company, featuring Richard Causer and Ryan Males. Daryl Brandwood from West Australian Ballet will perform the solo Consider the raven, choreographed by American Tobin Del Cuore. Australian choreographer Louise Deleur will premiere a new piece, titled Lineage, to be performed by Queensland Ballet dancers. Among this year’s international guest artists will be Lisa-Maree Cullum and Alen Bottaini from Munich’s Bavarian State Ballet, performing the pas de deux from Zakouski, a work by Danish dancer and choreographer Peter Martins. Nederlands Dans Theater’s Virginie Martinat and Medhi Walerski will perform two stunning pas de deux choreographed by Jiri Kylián. *Based on media release issued by Queensland Ballet.
