The young Belgians are coming, so Shut Up and Listen* Sydney Theatre Company will present the theatrical hit of the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Once And For All We’re Gonna Tell You Who We Are So Shut Up And Listen from internationally renowned Belgian theatre company, Ontroerend Goed, producers of The Smile Off Your Face at the Sydney Festival earlier this year. The original Belgian production is at Wharf 2 from 14 to 29 August, and will also play at Melbourne’s Arts House from 6 to 11 August. Once And For All We’re Gonna Tell You Who We Are So Shut Up And Listen caused a sensation in Edinburgh, earning five-star reviews and a slew of awards, including a Fringe First and Herald Angel, for the company and the young cast it had brought together from a youth centre in Ghent, Belgium, all aged between 14 and 18 years. With all the wild, frenzied energy of adolescence the performers on stage initially appear to conform to stereotypical notions of teenage behaviour getting high, spitting, kissing and scrapping. They’re sometimes rebellious, occasionally aggressive, vulnerable, sweet and rude. What emerges from the chaos is a highly original, life affirming, complex vision and celebration of what it means to be young. Cast: Aaron De Keyzer, Barbara Lefebure, Charlotte De Bruyne, Christophe De Poorter, Dina Dooreman, Edith De Bruyne, Edouard Devriendt, Elies Van Renterghem, Febe De Geest, Helena Gheeraert, Ian Ghysels, Koba Ryckewaert en Nathalie Verbeke. Director: Alexander Devriendt. Writers: Joeri Smet & Alexander Devriendt. Set and Costume Designer: Sophie De Somere. Sound design: Stijn De Gezelle Lighting Designer: Jeroen Doise. *Based on media release issued by Sydney Theatre Company.
