Janet Seidel ... described as “Australia’s first lady of jazz”.

POSTED: 12 OCTOBER 2009

Janet Seidel's special night in Parramatta*

For one special night, singer pianist Janet Seidel and her Trio will be joined by a string quintet performing songs from Seidel’s ARIA-nominated Art of Lounge albums. Together they will perform at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres on Saturday 31 October at 7.30pm.

Described as “Australia’s first lady of jazz” and originally from South Australia, Janet Seidel is now based in Sydney and has released 14 albums in Australia and overseas. Her trio is made up of respected guitarist Chuck Morgan and Seidel’s brother, David.

It was with this trio that her first forays into the Cabaret world were launched in 2000 with personal tribute show and CD Doris and Me, which has played successfully in many theatres and venues around Australia.

Their latest success in cabaret has been the show and CD, Delovely, which features a selection of Cole Porter songs recorded live at Sydney’s Woodfire Cabaret venue.

Janet Seidel’s collaborations have included playing with Sydney Symphony, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Carl Pini Strings, The Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Joe Chindamo and Don Burrows.

Seidel has been fortunate to work with some great Australian jazz musicians and her earlier work features some potent jazz content from artists such as Tom Baker, Ian Date, Paul Williams, Bob Gebert, Billy Ross and Col Nolan.

Seidel has toured worldwide including UK, USA, Europe, the Middle East and many South East Asian countries and has enjoyed particular success in Japan where she is consistently ranked in the top 10 jazz vocalists in the Japanese Jazz Polls.

“Singing and playing the piano always went hand in hand for me because I figured out that I could accompany myself while I was singing … when I perform, it's me: I'm not trying to imitate anyone,” Janet Seidel said,
