Opera hits a high note in the Outback*

The much-loved Opera in the Outback returns for its ninth performance this year from 8–10 October in the bushland at Undara in Queensland’s tropical savannah.

Featuring three nights of entertainment, the stunning outdoor event will open in 2009 with the world premiere of a 50-minute play called When the Wheels Fell off the World written, directed and performed by a local Cairns troupe.

The Friday and Saturday night operas, Highlights of Opera and Puccini’s La Boheme, will be performed by Melbourne-based Iopera.

Dress code is optional and guest styles range from black tie to casual.

Accommodation is available in tents, the wilderness lodge and restored railway carriages. Camping sites are also available.

Access is by road or air.
