POSTED: 30 SEPTEMBER 2011 2011 Orange Region Wine Show trophy winners announced* The results of the 2011 Orange Region Wine Show were announced at the annual Wine Show Industry Dinner. The 2011 Orange Region Wine Show was judged by Chairman of Judges, David Bicknell from Oak Ridge Wines, Toni Patteron MW, Shadowfax Winemaker Matt Harrop and Associate Judge Debbie Lauritz. The trophies awarded comprised: Madrez Wine Services Best Sauvignon Blanc of the Show 2010 Orange Highland Wines & Gardens Orange Highland Sauvignon Blanc Define Wine Marketing & Communications Best Chardonnay of the Show 2009 Philip Shaw Wines No.11 Chardonnay Orange Cool Stores Best Wine in Classes 8 and 12 (Pinot Noir and/or Red Blend) 2009 Ross Hill Wines 'Family Series' Cabernet Franc Merlot Classic Oak Packaging Best Shiraz or Shiraz dominant Wine of the Show 2010 Printhie 'Mount Canobolas Collection' Shiraz Central Western Daily Best Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Sauvignon Dominant Wine of the Show 2009 Ross Hill Wines 'Family Series' Cabernet Sauvignon Impresstik Labels & Labelling Solutions Judges Encouragement Award 2010 Angullong 'Bull's Roar' Tempranillo NAB Best White Wine of the Show 2009 Philip Shaw Wines No.11 Chardonnay Harvey Norman Best Red Wine of the Show 2009 Ross Hill Wines 'Family Series' Cabernet Sauvignon Saint Martin Best Wine of the Show 2009 Ross Hill Wines 'Family Series' Cabernet Sauvignon The Cabernet Sauvignon class was one of the highlights of the show, with one of the highest percentage of wines winning medals. Judges comments included, “a very good class with the top gold a wonderful example of the medium bodied claret style. Perfect luncheon wine,” referring to the wine that went on to win Best Wine of the Show, the 2009 Ross Hill 'Family Series' Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot also continues to improve within the region, with the judges comments mentioning that “the best wines were lovely bright, fresh and medium bodied, with an easy unforced character.” “It was another very successful wine show,” commented the Wine Show Committee President Lucy Maddox. “We are very fortunate to have such experienced judges prepared to support our region; the result will be ongoing improvement in the quality of the wines being made in Orange.” The full list of the 2011 Orange Region Wine Show results will be available on the Taste Orange website at www.tasteorange.com.au. *Reproduced from media release issued by Taste Orange.
