Second Hyatt Wine Week showcases best of WA*

From 19 to 27 August, Hyatt Regency Perth will showcase some of Western Australia's finest wines in a week-long line-up of events during the second annual Hyatt Wine Week.

Hyatt Wine Week offers a unique collection of events in collaboration with Western Australia's finest winemakers and wine personalities, including Ross Pamment of Houghtons, Keith and Clare Mugford of Mosswood, Paul Callaghan of Cape Mentelle, Vanya Cullen of Cullen Wines, Max Veenhuyzen and John Jens.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet key personalities at educational and highly entertaining events ranging from tasting evenings and afternoon teas to dinners with wine producers.

§ Houghtons: Celebrating 175 years

Date: Friday, 19 August

Time: 6:30pm

Location: Hyatt Regency Perth

Venue: Gershwin's Main Dining Room

Cost: $150 per person

Join Houghtons in the celebration of 175 years of producing world-class wines in Western Australia. The third-oldest winery in the country, Houghtons will bring to Hyatt Wine Week its senior wine-maker, Ross Pamment, for a night of decadence during which guests can taste a selection of Museum Release wines, including the first-release Jack Mann 1994, 2001 and the latest 2008 release. Wines will be matched with an exquisite three-course menu created by Hyatt Regency Perth’s Executive Chef, Mark Sainsbury, who will take guests back to the Gershwin's of old. § Moss Wood Inspirations

Moss Wood Inspirations will take place in two parts, starting with the Moss Wood Inspirations Tasting from 5–7pm. This is a unique and rare opportunity to gain an insight into Moss Wood Inspirations from the owners and winemakers, Keith and Clare Mugford. Experience eight Moss Wood wines with a selection that will include semillon, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. The Moss Wood Dinner will start at 7pm, offering guests the chance to share an intimate meal with Keith and Clare Mugford and gain insight into the Moss Wood brand. § Sparkling Afternoon Tea

Margaret River's cabernet winemakers attract national and international acclaim, but the lesser-known Great Southern rivals claim to be their match. For the second year, join wine enthusiast John Jens to compare the greatest cabernets from each region, intermingled with "yardsticks", to establish once and for all which is Western Australia's greatest cabernet region. § The Liquor Barons Fine Wine Expo

Date: Wednesday, 24 August

Cost: $30 per person in the Main Room, $90 per person in the Super Premium Room

In what is said to be Western Australia's premium wine show, this event will give guests the opportunity to sample more than 200 quality wines from across Australia and around the world. The show will feature a Main Room with 40 wineries and some craft beers, as well as hourly masterclasses hosted by well-known winemakers. The ticket price includes a complimentary tasting glass and masterclasses, as well as wine samples. A limited number of tickets are also available for the Super Premium tasting room, which will feature premium wines from prestigious Australian and international brands. § Cape Mentelle Museum Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting

Join Cape Mentelle's senior winemaker Paul Callaghan for the rare opportunity to taste 10 vintages of the famed Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon, including the 1983 vintage, winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Melbourne Wine Show in 1984. There are limited tickets available to this evening of museum stock cabernet tasting that will include a selection of canapés.
