Drink to Lorenzo's memory ... maybe in Italy
Readers of this column are presumably interested in wine so let me tell you about a great gig for wine enthusiasts that could win you a $10,000 trip to Italy. And on the way to competing for that prize you get to eat and drink some great Italian food and wine.
Established in memory of Tuscan-born Galli Winery founder Lorenzo Galli by his wife Pamela, the scholarship is a wonderful way to learn more about Italian wine and the interpretation of Italian varietals by Australian winemakers. For details go http://www.winescholarship.com.au/
The prize is judged by Age wine writer and Italophile Jane Faulkner and Melbourne wine importer Michael Trembath. A selection of applicants will attend Master classes led by Jane, Michael and wine consultant Dan Sims.
Entries close on August 28. I encourage you to give this wonderful opportunity serious thought I certainly am.
Jeff Gordon is one of Australia's most experienced winewriters and is highly regarded for his always insightful, occasionally inciteful, commentary on matters grape. He has recently developed his own website www.jeffgordon.com.au which provides a new home for his pithy On the Nose column and also features a Thursday round-up of the weekly specials being offered by major liquor retailers.
