In the Japanese manner: Australian prints 1900–1940

The collection charts the influence Japan had on Australian artists who were looking for fresh ideas away from the traditional centres of Europe and England. Many of the artists experiment with colour and composition to create images reflecting both the natural world and the society they inhabit, adapting the style and technique of Japanese woodblock printing to form a distinctively Australian aesthetic.
