Fine Arts Retreats provides a culturally rich experience for anyone interested in developing their artistic skills, indulging in Bali’s idyllic way of life and engaging with the local Balinese community.

Private art dealer Michael Nagy and distinguished artist Davina Stephens have secured some of Australia’s most accomplished artists to host daily workshops on their specific art form, instructing in a range of disciplines from fine art to photography.

Artists such as Garry Shead, Jason Benjamin, Joshua Yeldham and Fairlie Kingston will impart their wisdom and share their experiences. They will discuss how their work is inspired by the local artistic influences and shaped by their surroundings.

A Charles McKean Bali photographic workshop will be held from the September 17-24. McKean is the recipient of numerous local and international photography awards including the 2009 International Photo Awards for nature photography and the 2007 Sony Real Photographers Award.

McKean’s workshop on digital photography will focus on approach rather than the technical side of taking pictures, with an emphasis on artistic and compositional aspects.

Fine Art Retreats offer a relaxed, professional guide for beginners in basic practice and give experienced artists new insights and invigorate their work. Each course is limited to just eight people, guaranteeing one-on-one tuition with the resident artist.

Over seven days and nights guests gain an understanding of ‘art in culture’ as it is in everyday life. They learn about the Balinese people and customs from a local’s perspective. Ida Baus Oka, who was born on the outskirts of Ubud, is the retreat’s storyteller and cultural expert. He has a wealth of knowledge, insight and stories on the historical, religious, spiritual and artistic background of his homeland.

Guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature in rare and inspiring locations which enhance the creative spirit, in peace and seclusion. They will visit volcanoes, rainforests, rice terraces and waterfalls and marvel at temples, palaces and villages. When working outdoors, picnic lunches are provided by Bali’s leading boutique caterer, Lynley Marston.

The exotic beauty and royal heritage of Ubud is reflected in the luxury accommodation of the Warwick Ibah. The entire resort consists of just 17 uniquely designed villas and suites, each with a tranquil view of the Campuhan River.
