Amnesty TAPs art in the cause of freedom*

TAP Gallery, one of Sydney’s most innovative art spaces, and Amnesty International Australia, part of the world’s largest human-rights organisation, have teamed up for the 15th consecutive year to present the Freedom exhibition.

The exhibition will be on display from 17–30 January. The official function and presentations, on Saturday 22 January from 5-8pm, will feature live music, high-profile speakers, celebrity judges and light refreshments.

Two main awards will be presented on the day: the people’s choice award, selected by the public attending the function; and the critics’ choice award, selected by a panel of critics, artists and community representatives. with up to $1000 in prizes.

The event aims to increase awareness about Amnesty International’s work in human rights protection and encourage support and donations. It will also provide a platform for emerging artists to exhibit their work.

The competition is open to all artists and all mediums. The focus of the exhibition will be the artist’s interpretation of what freedom (or the lack of freedom) means to them. Applications will be available from TAP Gallery up until the 17 January, the deadline for works to be delivered.

The Amnesty People’s Choice Award is generously sponsored by Matisse Derivan Finest Acrylic Paints.
